I have added a forum section to the site so I can give support to this theme once released. I am in the process of cleaning up the code and double checking functions. I’m pushing for a release date of 3/5/2010.

You can download the theme here. I think it’s a visually striking theme, one of the best I’ve seen. After customizing the theme for about two weeks I’ve almost got it the way I want it. Pyrmont was released under the GPL. I’ve tried to make sure that the edits I’ve done to the theme would still allow it to be used on a non-commercial site as well as commercial sites. Some of the things I’ve added are Tweet display, custom pages and an options page. My edits make a great addition to Pyrmont V2 and I plan on releasing my version of the theme within the next couple of weeks. I’ve also sent a copy of my edits to the original creator in the hopes that he will also get some use out of them. It appears he’s working on a new theme at the moment so I’m not sure if he’ll actually incorporate any of them into the Pyrmont theme. Keep an eye out on my site for updates.

On Wednesday Steve Jobs announced the newest addition to the Apple family, the iPad. The way he described it during the presentation you would have thought that this was the greatest creation in recorded history. He also downplayed the netbooks that are swamping the market now. He actually had me going until he said how much storage space the iPad’s come with. 16gb, 32GB and 64GB. Early reports are saying that the 16GB model will be available for $499. That is too much money for the features in my opinion. Basically the iPad is a supersized iPod Touch, in looks as well as features. The battery life is the best part which is rated at 10 hours and over a month in standby mode.

Overall I feel like the iPad is nothing more than a rushed prototype. Why? First of all the name iPad just doesn’t strike me as a very appealing name. It looks like Apple didn’t want to go with the name iSlate because that’s what everybody thought it would be called and had been calling it. Second of all the design is just like the iPod touch, just bigger. Speaking of size, Steve Jobs bragged about how thin it is. Honestly, as big as it is it doesn’t really matter how thin it is because it’s not like you’re going to be putting it in your pocket. If you take it on a trip you will still have to take a some form of a laptop bag. If you need to do anything productive then you would probably opt for an actual laptop, not a glorified ebook reader, which by the way is what I believe this was actually intended to be.

Who will the iPad appeal to? Teens who think it’s tight, middle aged men with too much money who need a new toy and general Apple fanatics. How could this release have been better? Release the iPad as an 8GB model with an option for expandible storage and stick a $299 price tag on it. In the presentation Steve Jobs mentioned netbooks as well as smartphones. The iPad can’t compete with either of these. Will I be getting one of these? Probably next year when 128Gb solid state drives are being stuck in it. No matter what I’d rather have a Macbook Pro than this oversized iPod.

Constantly hitting save in your DAW could save alot of frustration in the event that the program crashes. I’m sure most of you already live by this rule as well as most everybody else that requires up-to-date project files and who use the computer as a tool to compose their work such as writers, graphic artists, etc… Since hard drives have a tendency to fail at the worst possible moment it’s a good idea to create backups of your work. What I’d like to suggest is that you create at least two backups of your work on a regular basis. There are three mediums that I personally prefer to backup up my work to. The first one is CD/DVD, depending on the amount of data I need to backup. The good thing about this type of medium is that it’s cheap and programs such as Samplitude support this type of backup as a built-in feature. The second medium I use for backups are thumb drives. These small flash drives are fairly dependable and price per GB are constantly dropping. They also have the benefit of being extremely portable which means large backups can be kept in your pocket wherever you go. The next type of backup can be useful depending on who you are. Online storage is dependable and flexible but cost will vary greatly depending on where you get your online storage from. Storing your data online can be useful but it can also backfire if you are someone that alot of people are interested in. The reason I say this is because if you don’t choose a secure method of storing and sending your work online then it can be leaked, stolen or tampered with. If you are someone like me that doesn’t have a huge following then you should be ok. No matter what forms of backup you use you should try your best to keep them secure. If you keep more than one form of backup then you should be able to rest assured that if your hard drive crashes and your backup is corrupted then you will have a “fail-safe” backup.

I had been having some issues with my Peavey Classic VT series amp. When I got it I had to replace the speakers because they were blown. When I put the new speakers in I was finally able to test the amp out. It has always sounded good at low volumes but terrible at a louder volume. I was very picky about which guitar I played through. I just thought it was a bad sounding amp. Well, I was poking around with a mutlimeter the other day and decided to test the speaker cable on the amp. It turns out that this whole time I’ve had the speakers wired out of phase. After correcting the wiring the amp sounds really good, almost the same sound as some silverface Fender amps I’ve played.
