I’ve got the junk yard gas tank sitting in my garage right now. Haven’t had a chance to clean it up yet so it doesn’t look that great. I’m actually not sure what I need to do in order to clean it out. Do I use gas to clean it out? I have some more research to do before I dive into things. When messing with gasoline the one thing you shouldn’t be is unsure. I believe the tank itself is made of steel but on the inside there is a lot of what appears to be fiberglass. The fiberglass is around where the fuel pump goes in. There are a couple of plates on the outside of the tank that have hoses built into them. They need to be replaced but I don’t know what they’re called or if you can buy them at a parts store. All in all I think the whole process of changing the fuel tank out is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

I’ve finally got pictures of the junk yard gas tank. Sorry about the poor image quality. The above picture just shows the junk yard gas tank. The picture below show the broken and rusted tube on the tank.

Please keep this updated. I am going through the same thing, however I cannot find a replacement tank. The only place that could order one was a local Toyota dealer for a small fee of $730.00! Do you know where I can get a tank? I have been to the junk yards and most online sites. My tank has been repaired twice, but my mechanic says it won’t last much longer.
I’m thinking about having my tank fixed at a place that specializes in it. Here is the address and phone number. The place is located in Louisville Kentucky though. It’s close to me but I’m not sure if it’s close to you.

Taking the tank off and using the junkyard one isn’t looking so good. I found out there are parts on the tank that you can only get from the dealer. One little pipe costs as much as I paid for the tank. I’ll try to keep my progress updated, but I can’t promise that I can even do this.
