It’s become obvious to me that I need a soundcard for my laptop. Seeing as how I can’t use one of the many quality soundcards I have in my desktop pc’s, they’re pci, it looks like I need to start looking for a usb soundcard. I’ve already done some searching and have narrowed my search down to two possible choices, the PreSonus AudioBox USB and the Edirol UA-4FX USB. Both interfaces are usb 1.1. I know that usb 2.0 is “better” but for the amount of inputs and outputs I need it would be overkill. Besides if I need to do a large multitrack project I’ve got hardware recorders for that. Anyways, I need some advise on which of these would be better for me. I work with Windows Vista and Ubuntu, mainly Windows for audio stuff though. My needs are as follows, ability to track my guitar and bass seperately as well as the ability to hook up a stereo feed from my synth. I’m broke as shit so I’d like to only have to make one purchase. Oh yeah, I definately need midi hookups which both of these interfaces have.

I decided to get the edirol. I got it overnighted and it’s exactly what I needed. It works great on vista also. Here’s the test recording I did with it last night.
