Working on a Reaper project

I have been working all night on creating a Reaper project for everybody that uses the Reaper software. In creating the project folder for a Black Label Society song,I ran into a couple of problems I didn’t think about. The project size grew to about 1.4GB which is way to large. By rendering the files from 24bit wavs to 16bit wavs I was able to get the project size down to 995MB. That’s still too large in my opinion. I then got a great idea, I would compromise some quality and render all the wavs to 320kbps mp3′s. After I rendered all files and checked the project size I was happy with the 222MB size. I then loaded all the mp3 files up in Reaper and then pressed play. Much to my dismay, there were so many dropouts during playback that the project was useless. My best guess as to the reason for this is that Reaper might convert mp3′s to wav on the fly for playback which would each up memory and cpu processing power. The particular song I’m working on is “Bleed for Me”, which is over 5 minutes long and has nineteen tracks. I will be working on a solution to all these problems so I can get a project file up for all of you to play with. Not now though, it’s 3 in the morning and I’m fucking tired.
